Do you like it? Or just live with it because your better half is the decorator and, well-it’s just easier to live with it?
I would like to live in a log cabin, but I don’t so I decorate inside with woodland “stuff”

We like the woodsy cabin feel as well.
We have neutral furniture and dress it up with pillows and blankets that are woodsy — we kind of lean towards wolves and trees… we have candles in a tray with rocks around it; I like it simple without overdoing it with alot of nicknacks…. so we keep the clutter down to a minimum, but enough to create the feel.
Enjoy!
Well before my husband and i got together he collected wolves and i collected indians. My great x5 grandmother was a full blooded Cherokee so i have always heard stories and been very interested in her/them.So now we have the indian/wolves theme in our house, which is cool because they go really good together. I have always wanted a log cabin too, they are so beautiful.
I consider myself what they “ECLECTIC”…..If I like it, then I incorporate into my decorating…..I love animal print and have it in most of the rooms of my home, either by using nic nacs, pillows, etc. Just be you and show off your imagination and creativity…..Your home will mean much more to you than if you have it done by a decorator or designer. Remember …..YOU ARE THE “KING OR QUEEN” OF YOUR CASTLE!
I bought my house and am completley redoing it. I like a lot of
light and open space. I just sort of think out the ideas as I go
along. I just put 4 , 5X2 mirrors over the sofa and put little
box type mirrors in between those, and photo frames with
flowers in them. Everyone says it is striking. I like it.
I think what we like and what makes us comfortable is the key!
What I have done is, I reupholstered my couch and recliner in camoflage. Also I made sheer’s for my windows out of camoflaged mosqiuto netting. I rent my place so I can’t do much with my walls but the livingroom has a dark paneling and the kitchen is done in a dark notty pine wood finish, I made specialty curtains for the windows out there with material that has cabins and squirells and bears and fishing scene’s. Yes I DID IT ALL
I’m one of those people who has nick nacks and SHTUFF everywhere…not junky or in disarray, just a lot of stuff.
My living room is huge and on one side of it, I have floor to ceiling shelving on every wall, to accomodate my collections. I have 2500 albums (yes, the black vinyl kind lol) , 27 cameras most of them antique, and quite a few photography books, as well as photo albums, etc. I collect Stephen King books, and Walt Disney animated movies, and I have a fairly large collection of kaleidoscopes. This side also includes a Gazelle exercise machine, with a small TV, VCR and a stereo.
The other side of the living room has a couch and two chairs, coffee table, three end tables, an entertainment center with a TV, VCR , DVD player, and a collection of white cats. The colors are periwinkle blue and burgandy, with oak furniture and neutral accents. I collect blue Carnival glass, and have several pieces in here.
I like antiques, and my bedroom is filled with cool old stuff, with a pretty quilt. The furniture is dark, and the colors are lavender, mint green, and white.
I also have antiques in the dining room, with a collection of Charles Wysocki plates, a collection of antique glassware and bottles, and a collection of old cookbooks. One of my cats has determined the best place in the house to lounge, is the table top…lol.
I just redid my kitchen so now, it has woodgrain countertops, as well as the floor. The colors are hunter green and cream, and all appliances are black. I have green ivy everywhere. On the countertop below the window, I have done a display with pieces of chopped trees, and moss to make a “natural area”, that has life like birds, and a pond, etc.
My bathroom is centered around the jacuzzi, which is pearl grey. The colors in there are light grey, hunter green and pale yellow. I have an antique table, and some old wicker pieces, with lots of plants, underneath a very nice skylight.
The other bathroon is absolutely beach themed, in light blue, peach and white. I have four oil paintings of beach scenes, and a shelving unit filled with shells and stuff.
The other bedroom is filled with my Mom’s stuff. The furniture is bleached wood, and the colors are peach, seafoam green and beige. I have some of her books, and cross stitch, and knick knacks in there, as well her favorite Magnolia window swags, and antique glass lamp.
The room I am sitting in, describing my life’s surroundings…lol, is all about computer, desk, reference books, and files. The very top of my desk is filled with photos, small momentos, and stuffed animals that look like pets that have gone to pet heaven. On one shelf I have a small collection of clowns, and on another I have my collection of VC Andrews books. This room also includes a grandfather clock, with the time stopped, at the time of my mother’s death. I also have in here, two large framed photographs of the beach at Big Sur California, and my collection of rocks and crystals.
My outdoor living space includes a forty foot deck on the back, that is carpeted, and has a roof over half of it. Under the roof I have a ceiling fan, several rocking chairs, and a few tables, and a small picnic table. Here also includes two dog houses, and a variety of dog toys scattered about. The uncovered part, has a large grill, with a few things to sit on, and 12 planters with Tiger Lilies growing in them.
The front deck is also carpeted, and has black wrought iron furniture on it. This includes a baker’s rack that holds several bird feeders.
My actual yard is fenced. In side the fence, I have several birdbaths, and many birdfeeders and squirrel feeders. Outside the fence I have an abundance of Dogwood trees, pine trees, and other greenery.
I have at least one angel in every room in my house, as well as outside.
So…would you say I have a theme, or not? LOL
(This has to be absolutely longest answer,
you have ever gotten…! )
I had a decor until I let my girlfriend move in with me, LOL. Now the place is styled in “Early-American Garage Sale”, as I like to call it. She’ll be the first one to tell you that she has no sense of style. I’ll back her up on that.
I developed an idea many years ago for retiring in a travel trailer so I could travel the states when I get older. I don’t have a lot of stuff. Before we met, I was comfortably living in a studio apartment with room to entertain. What few things I own are of the highest quality, and I only buy things I really love.
When we moved in together we had to get a 2 bedroom apartment just to accommodate her endless collections. In a way, the whole situation is kind of amusing. Sad, but amusing.

We don’t really have a “theme” but the upstairs in our house is mostly burgundy and dark green, with kind of the country feel to it. The bedrooms are pretty much whatever (my room is tropical, my parents is lavender, my sisters is flowers and such), but our basement is my favorite. Its completely finished, and its decorated with the woodland “stuff”. We have the leaves and bears and moose and such. Decorating tip: I thought this was kind of cool…we went outside and picked out colorful leaves and dried them in a catalog. Then we framed them w/ mats and everything, and they made really pretty pictures! We also took some of the leaves and put them under the glass on our coffee table… I think its neat!
I like basic colors…nothgin too far away from the white the house came with.
I hate painting and don’t want to have to do it again when ready to sell the house.
I would like to live in a two story house with a huge front porch and rocking chairs to sip a cold beer or big glass of sweet tea.
I live in a log home…and my kitchen is done in sunflowers…my bathroom is done in dolphins and painted in different shades of blue with a sponge…my kids’ room is done in Thomas the Tank Engine…my room is done in dolphins…the extra room is in daisies…and the living room doesn’t have a theme…but all of my Boyds Bears are in there…
I have several one for each room.
My living room is done in like the western Parlors I have wood stained walls (cherry stain and beatiful) red velvet furniture with hardwood flooring.
My Kitchen is done saloon (hubby’s idea but looks great) we have stainless steel appliances, butcher block counter tops, round table once again hard wood flooring, shutters on the windows and swinging shutter type door into kitchen
bathroom is Victorian pink,white,plum,lavender,
master bedroom is ocean-ed themed
sand color shag carpet, ocean blue walls, sky blue ceilings with hand painted clouds, on the bottom of the wall instead of trim we had a coral reef mural painted about 2 foot up the wall the master bath carries over the look
kids room well who knows it is theres they do as the wish as long as it isn’t TOO FAR OUT THERE.
Yep… in the mood for a classic metro-modern for the living room, wassily chairs, red leather sofa from cassini, a low tempered glass coffee table from ligna roset, an antique-retro white medicine cabinet (use as my booze cabinet)… off white carpet… stark white trims … oh and my awesome nelson clock!
Dining… metro-modern with a zen touch! Light maple roll out table with tempered glass… lisa leather chairs… a simple square tray with 4 square candle and a sake set on it!
Bedroom is my true “Zen Garden”. I have off white carpet to work with… reminds me of super fine sand… with grey green walls (blurred tree scape). Float my dark brown cherry platform bed on the sand, my dresser is a match that have black horizontal lines…. use my mirror (reflect the earth and sky)… beeswax candles, clay bowl (catch rain water were it be in an outside zen garden), pot of red orchids, my “Qin” (good Fang Sui)… all nicely arranged still life “nature representation”. Bed spread is midnight blue, with beige throw pillows and dark greygreen nature collection from Thomas O’ Brian. Spot o red silk shangtung pillow in the center of course.
I love your question, especially the part about “your better half”. The theme here is totally Victorian. I love the gracefulness of the Victiorian era. The flowing drapes and curtains being 95 inches long, and wide open spaces. The hallway to upstairs has large open flowers, mostly a pale yellow-gold, tones of green leaves on an off-white background. The double-living room is painted deep grass green (my favorite color) with very wide molding at the ceiling painted a dull gold. I have 6 livingroom windows with 95 inch lace curtains and sheers underneath. Each bedroom has a different look with furniture from the past. Not to bore you but this house has the original intercom system still built in. We decided to leave it piped in because it’s part of this houses history. Our downstairs bathroom has the old clawfoot tub and a large pedestal sink, all from the past. We were lucky in that they were both in excellent shape. To go with them we purchased a pull chain toilet. The ones where the tank is mounted on the wall. It’s a new copy of the older types that used to be. Needless to say that this is a Queen Anne Victorian house. It seems to be my style as the possibilities are endless, so my decor is Victorian.
As for “your better half”, you know, it’s an excellent question. We have owned this house for almost 10 years and I am so strong at decorating in a Victorian style, something that seems to come easy to me, that I don’t think I have ever asked him what style he really likes. Bless his heart, he just goes along with anything. You see, there is a lesson to be learned everyday and I just learned one. Thank you.
Kind of French/New Orleans style I guess. It wasn’t really an intended theme, but that’s what it reminds me of.
I just surround myself with things I like and things that make people comfortable when they visit. I’m not much of a decorator, so that’s the best I could do.
