I want to decorate my home a little bit Victorian, a little bit Sherlock Holmes era. I love the old, intricate and ornate decor! How can I do this on a limited budget?

Use paint and stencils, and check your local thrift stores: Sometimes it’s possible to get some nice things there for a bargain price.

    Good luck!

Craigslist! They have fantastic furniture on there, where people just decide to go with a different decor. Also, look for used/secondhand stores in your area, they are soooo much cheaper than antique stores or replica stores. If you don’t want to wallpaper for the Victorian look, search for wallpapers you really like and frame them in different sizes/frames in groupings. Also, for the Sherlock Holmes side, find intricate wood pieces and sand and stain them dark rich brown. Look for an antique pipe set for decoration. You can sew fringe onto the bottom edge of your sofa for a rich, elegant Victorian touch – also on lampshades. I love these styles also, just be careful to keep an element of simplicity and not be too literal or it will look like an antique store :)

Go to thrift shops or consignment store in your area.
