You could try a black patina solution available in stained glass supply stores.
Hubbard-Hall has an antiquing solution called Mi-Tique 1795 that is designed specifically to give Tin an dark antique look.
There are multiple part paint kits made for doing this. Check out your local paint retailer.
take brown paint and splatter it on the can
They make a product to paint on that is called “Rust It”..even gives the texture of rust..found in craft stores.
If you’re not in a hurry, just leave it out in the weather for a season or two,,and wet it down every now and again.
I*ve heard vinegar makes metal look old and rusty. Haven*t tried it myself though.
