I have to tell you that in the 80s we didn't have old worn furniture or lots of colorful mixed patterns. But don't let that stop you...

You can find the most interesting and unique items for really cheap at your local thrift store, go back each week til you find the things that really speak to you and be open minded, some things may require a little sanding or paint
For the walls-- I saw once where someone had taken a ton of tea bags on boiled them in water then after it cooled they slowly poured it down the walls then took the bags and sqeezed them out on the walls-- it was sooooooo cool looking it made the walls look kinda like rocks and it gave the appearance of texture
Have someone cut out some squares of wood for you then cover them with fabrics you like and hang them behind your bed for a neat looking head board (and u can use tacks to place pictures or letters on the boards too)
Have fun with it
