the other furniture is like a dark brown wood color and the walls are a neutral cream-like color. i wanted opinions on colors to decorate with..i was thinking burnt orange, dark reds, and tans possibly??
also, does anyone know any do-it-yourself, cheap ideas to create home decor for the living room also? i want it to be chic, modern, and classy. all help would be greatly appreciated:)

There are different resources you can use including TV.
I don’t know giving any ideas may help you unless there is something visual. The websites for hgtv, better home and gardens and a lot others are there, which will give you some visual representations of ideas and you will get something from everything.
There are certain shows in HGTV for decorating rooms with less money. If you are planning DIY, then keep watching those and I am sure every show may give some idea to you..
You could add some nice curtains and modern shelves that will spruce up the place a bit
