I am decorating my new house with a combination of my furniture and my fiance’s. He has a very bachelor pad black tv stand (not good quality…Walmart probably). It’s particle board and plex-glass. It’s super-masculine and doesn’t flow well with the antique feel of the rest of the house. In my old apartment I had my television on a vintage white shabby chic dresser, but with our new, much larger TV, we need something a little more functional.
Any ideas for something unique to put our TV on? I’m not a big fan of armoires (the room is really too small for one)…in fact, I don’t like most media furniture in general, so I was hoping to get some ideas and go thrift/antique store hunting for it! HELP ME!!!
how about an antique dresser this way you can put your cds in the draws and use the rest of it for storage and it will also look nice i have seen plenty of dressers in living rooms i am a big hgtv fan am also an antique collector.
You could use wine crates (the wooden kind) ….stand them on their ends and arrange them where the openings are in the front to be able to put a plant or other decorative items inside.
You could use a small coffee table ….it would be low and wide …then you could put two or three large square baskets underneath for storage that would pull out when you need to get into them. Line the baskets with fabric that would match your living room decor.
Put two antique chairs against the wall facing each other …and a salvaged weathered but (sturdy) piece of wood on the seat of the chairs. Screw the wood in place to the chair seats if needed. Sit the television on the chairs. Then …find another piece of weathered wood to lay on top of the chairs that will go all the way across the chair backs over the television. Sit pictures on top of this board, under the television, on the wall behind the whole display…..just decorate it up to look like it has been there for fifty years.
How ’bout an antique console table…sofa table…or even an old antique buffet that would normally go in a dining room. You’ll have drawers and/or cabinets for stereo components, movies and cd’s..you can close them up…it’s functional, yet matches the style of your room!
Hints:
Think shape ,heat ventaltion and measurments.
Aquarium stand, might need to make some adjustments.
Old chest of drawers, remove drawers add a shelf cover with curtains to match room decor.. add some tie backs…
Fireplace mantel add a shelf………put in a fire dvd and well you get the point.
you might need to anchor the stand to the wall for safety, there is hard ware out there just for this….
Add baskets
go to a goodwill or maybe a garage sale if you have those…you can find one of a kind items and re-do them and make it your own.. white paint and then sand (primitive is really in) try to find a small buffet so you will have a lot of storage…
I have mine on an antique trunk.
I put a piece of stained luan on it so it doesn’t fall through.
Later I want to do a thinker piece with routered edges and stain it.
