I’ve heard too many different things… should I water them every morning or every evening? Thx!

Answer:
It’s best to water in the morning so that the bushes have time for any water that splashed on their leaves to dry off. If at all possible, water just at the base of the bushes so the leaves don’t get wet. Water no more than every other day for the first few weeks to get them established. You want to make sure that the roses don’t dry out between watering. It’s better to water them thoroughly, regularly, & less often than to water just a little every day. http://www.rose-gardening-made-easy.com/double-knockout-rose.html I live in Ohio & my established Knockout Roses (which I’ve had for several years) get watered now only when it hasn’t rained enough… to prevent them from drying out. I watered my roses a couple times a week when we hit a dry spell recently. The rain we’ve just had these past few days has been a welcomed relief. David Epstein says to water “Early in the morning, deep, & less frequently.” He suggests watering just a few times a week. http://www.5min.com/Video/Discovering-A-New-Type-Of-Rose-3635760 Mulching helps retain moisture. This forum discusses how too much water is not good for these rose bushes & how resillent they are: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/268/ (scroll down to discussion) Good luck!!! Hope this is helpful.
