Have just bought a new home. We are not going to do much decor yet just paint the walls and change the carpets downstairs only as we will be doing it up properly in the next couple of years. We have chosen Dulux Perfectly Taupe for the walls in the living room but I am really unsure as to what shade of carpet will go and what colour settees. Any advice will be gratefully received.

My husband hates floral prints and any sort of floral decoration. I’m so sick of stripes, plaid and squares. Our house is a blank canvas other than the square themed area rugs (none of them match) and our stripe shower curtain. We have a black leather couch that we’re still paying for…so have to keep it. I want our home to feel inviting and put together…like a model home. But his taste is horrible. I make only $8/hour and he makes $30/hour. His attitude is that since he makes more…what he says…”goes”. ugh. Any ideas? And no, I’m not willing to pick a fight with him or tell him to shove it. I’m only looking for decor advice that will suite both of us.

i have my dresser angled so there is this huge space behind it. i kind wanted to put one of those fake trees behind it and put some christmas lights in it but my mom says that those fake trees are expensive. and now that i think of it… it might make my room look smaller. (i have a pretty small room)
what should i do to fill the space back there??? it seems empty.
also i am 17 and my room is purple with white furniture. i need something to put on my dresser and my night stand… its kinda empty. i have a really nice jewlery box, a candle, one of those mirror things that sit flat on the dresser, a box (that i use for more jewlery, and a small stand up mirror. all on my dresser right now. and i need 1 more thing i think to fill the other corner. the stuff on my dresser is kinda vintage/victorian style stuff. idk. please help.
for this stuff i have looked at pbteen, bedbathandbeyond, target, worldmarket, and a few other places but cant find anything really.
thanks.

I’ve just moved into a new rented apartment and like it very much. Before we moved in, the landlord has spent a lot of money renovated the dining room and spent a lot of time on the wooden paneling. This paneling is not to my taste at all, in the rest of the house it is painted white which looks light and airy, but in this room it is a dark teak color. I want to make this room an office so I can work at home and want to soon buy some furniture. However, I am at a loss at how to decorate this room. Should I go for an Old-English style drawing room look complete with leather chesterfield sofa or would it look to good to contrast the old paneling with contemporary furniture which is more to my taste. I’m not an interior designer so don’t have the vision. What do you reckon?
