Have a Luxurious Home on a Tight Budget

Luxurious homes, inevitably, evoke one word from every aspirant of a luxurious home. And that is – ‘expensive’. Normally, luxury homes are viewed from the amount of money invested in furnishing these homes. We tend to believe that royalty of luxurious homes come from money. But, very conveniently, forget that some astute thinking and of course, little money can transform our homes into a royal castle. In fact, if we trace the journey of some of the luxury furniture, we can easily find out that the things that were commonplace in ancient homes have been rendered luxurious in the form of antiques. So, present day’s luxury is yesterday’s normalcy. So, why not try to make it a present day’s normalcy?

The first thing to take care of is to avoid buying fakes. If antiques are your choice to bring in luxury to your home, never settle for cheap furniture or look-alikes. For instance, an exclusive Amish made furniture could be your ideal choice but never get duped by unscrupulous dealers, who make a quick buck out of the ignorant buyers. Always opt for a reputed dealer of Amish furniture who provides adequate guarantees and warranties on your purchase. Similarly, if dealing with Antique furniture dealers, always choose the one who has a good reputation both online as well as offline.

          ]]>

The next thing to plan is the art works. While expensive paintings by renowned painters may be out of your budget range, you certainly need not lose heart. A beautiful oil painting or water-colored painting can be an impressive alternative. The artwork need not be a “branded” one. The important things are that the painting should (a) gel with the overall scheme of the room; and (b) not look like a poor replica of some original artwork. As long as these two conditions are met, the “brand” won’t matter much.

Flooring comes next. A decent priced wool carpet or stone tiles can provide the look and feel of luxury to your home. A carefully crafted handmade carpet is any day better than artificially created custom-made flooring.

You must be extra careful while spending on furniture requirements. One thing about luxury furniture is that it acts like a seductive temptress. You have to be extra careful to resist the temptation of spending too much on luxury furniture items. A better option is to look for the reproduction pieces manufactured by furniture makers, like Baker Furniture or Century Furniture. Kitchen with granite finish can be inexpensively royal.

Affordable luxuries also come at a price but this should not daunt you, as the satisfaction of having a luxurious home is much more valuable than affordable luxuries. Apart from buying new items, you can also mould your existing furniture into a luxurious outlook. Silk pillows and tapestry finish are good options for affordable luxury. Decorative and inexpensive plants could lend the oomph factor in the drawing room. And most importantly, never clutter your home with excessive furniture. Always allow some breathing space in your rooms.

House is currently 80′s country. The woodwork is lt golden oak, white cabinetry & shiny hardware, shiny brass glass fixtures – my style is Tuscan, darker woods, marble, iron, rich earth tones. Mission also appeals to me, again, medium to dark woods, black iron, ect.

I am repainting the entire interior – walls & ceilings – that’s already in the budget & is top priority. I’m thinking a shade similar to latte but w/ a neutral to slightly warm cast to it due to the woodwork.

I want to incorporate as much antique looking black accent as possible, I love the old look & I have a lot wrought iron decor pieces.

For furniture, I’m thinking leather, classic medium brown leather sofa/chair, need to find a dining table that is that lt wood, hopefully with some black iron accents. The LR has a stone fireplace, though it’s grey instead of tan which seems odd to me.

Very tight budget – suggestions to incorporate my tastes into this home? Photos for ideas?
What type of hardware would you suggest?

Repainting the cabinets, as much as I would love to, isn’t really practical right now. I can’t afford to have them done and it’s just not possible for me to do them myself at this point in time & have them look nice.

What about window treatments? I’m a “less is more” person. I’d like matching iron hardware on all the windows but not sure what kind of curtains I want. There are bright white wooden blinds on the bedroom windows but not the living room/dining room. Privacy wise, I’m ok with sheers though … Color suggestions?

I also really like plants and am thinking some hanging drapping type plants in front of the large dining window (which faces back yard) would add a degree of privacy but not block too much light and view. I saw some pretty wroung iron hangning pots that were inexpensive. I just don’t want to go overboard with the black.

Do you love decorating your home? As for many of us the cost is overwhelming. Well I have a secret for you. You can buy inexpensive items and dress them up in a way that says “Expensive”. Once you have set a budget try to stick to it as close as you can. You may find an occasional item that may seem to stretch your budget a little, but that’s okay. A little splurge may excite you and generate more determination to continue searching for those great deals. Put a few really inexpensive accents on and around the item you splurged on. “Wow” It was worth it.

You can easily and inexpensively improve any aspect of your home for a small amount of money. Don’t just sit around wishing you had the money or the know how to create a “Home to be proud of”. Every home has a heart and a hope for happiness. You can find an endless number of high quality household items that you can use to decorate, organize or repair your home by shopping at Thrift stores, Consignment shops, Flea markets or Garage sales. I personally like to start at garage sales because the price is usually right. Thrift stores, Consignment shops and Flea markets are of course reasonable but remember the price includes their commission. For example, a nice wall hanging may be priced at $10.00 at a garage sale, the same item will probably cost you $15.00 or more at a thrift, consignment or flea market purchase. The owner of this item may have paid $50.00 to $100.00 at some retail store a few years ago, so you see how this works, either way you get a good deal. All you have to do is decide which one of these avenues of shopping will best suit you, and then hit the road.

Before you go too far, look around your home and see what you may already have that you can utilize or enhance. Do you have a basket of greenery just sitting there? Try wrapping a set of clear miniature lights into it, and then add a few small colorful accents, for example, cattails, vines of flowers, berries or different shades of greenery. If you don’t have any of these accessories put them on your list.

If you really like the large picture you hung behind your couch a few years ago but still aren’t satisfied, try adding candle sconces on the sides. Choose a type that will blend in your room. There again, this is an easy to find item for your shopping list as are the candles you will need. Some times a little greenery or a small candle ring will add even more.

Your favorite couch or chair may just need a new throw or a few accent pillows. A small gesture like this seems to bring new life. Do you have decorative baskets just stacked around the house? Find one that will sit under your coffee table or end table then fill it with all the magazines, books or newspapers that are lying around the room. There, isn’t that better? Now just keep this going with every room in your home.

When you shop at garage sales go ahead and buy anything you see that you like. The price is right and your home is hungry for change and improvement. If you have never seriously shopped at garage sales for household items you are going to be very surprised at what you can find. For example:

Candles, Picture Frames, Lawn Mowers, Plumbing Fixtures,

Wall Hangings, Shelving, Lawn Furniture, Paint Supplies,

Greenery (All types),	Books (all types), Light Fixtures,

As you see, anything your home needs is affordable on any budget. So what do you say, let’s Paint the walls, Spruce up your lighting, Replace the old rusty faucets and Organize the clutter.

Put those shelving units up that you picked up at the garage sale and use them to store or display things that are scattered around.

You won’t believe your eyes and you really won’t believe the money you saved.

P.S. If you want the absolute bottom line price on all your Home Decorating, Home Organizing and Home Improvement items, visit garage sales after noon on the last day of the sale. This is when prices sometimes get slashed in half.

When one is home decorating on a budget, one of the easiest and cheapest ways to change the look of any home is to add color. Choosing the right colors for your home decorating can seem like such a daunting task however, that some people are frozen in indecision. Here are some great, easy guidelines to help teach you how to choose colors for your home.

*Identify a feeling that you want to convey in the home. This will go a long way towards helping you choose the right color scheme. If you are looking for a warm color scheme that wraps you in comfort, try deeper colors in warmer shades such as reds, gold, browns and some greens. Want a light, uplifting feeling? Sunny yellows might be just the ticket. Looking for a calming, serene atmosphere? Pale sky blues, spring greens and lilacs are what you are looking for.

*Find a perfect color scheme by borrowing the colors from a major fabric pattern, rug or wallpaper in the room. Use one of the colors in the pattern for the walls, another for the curtains and pillows, and a third for accessories. Make sure each color is used in at least three places in the room, and is evenly distributed. If you use a bright red as an accent color, you don’t want it all on one side of the room, or it will seem unbalanced.

*Don’t feel you have to paint every wall in a room. To save time and money, especially if you are unsure of your color choice, paint just the focal wall in the room. It will give you the impact without all the time and expense of an entire room redo.

*To expand space in a small home, keep all walls that can be seen at the same time the same pale, cool color. This works great for open plan homes. If you want to use a more vibrant color in the rooms, paint the outside walls the pale, cool color to visually expand the space, then paint the interior decorative walls the deeper color, or use that color on cabinets and furniture.

*Keep in mind colors in a room offer a psychological effect as well. Here is a quick run down of the most common colors, and how they affect those in the same environment.

Red- The color of love and passion, red tends to cause a lively feeling to any room. It can enhance appetite and feel energetic.

Yellow- The color of optimism. You can’t help but to feel good in a sunny yellow room!

Blue- Seen as trustworthy, loyal. Blue is a claming color that feels like sky and water.

Green- The color of nature and peace. Soothing color that is easiest on the eye. Some greens are now used as neutrals in a room.

Purples- The color of royalty and luxury. It can be both uplifting and calming at the same time, depending on whether there is more blue or red in the undertone.

Remember that paint is relatively cheap, and if you don’t end up liking the final result, you can always repaint, or use a glaze over the paint job to tone it down. Don’t let fear keep you from adding color to your life, and to your home decorating, on a budget!

For those who are trying to decorate a home, but need to stick to a specific budget may want to learn how to approach the art of buying decorating accessories and items. You will want to think about setting your budget together before you end up buying things to decorate. You will find that there are some things that you will want to purchase to go cheap when it comes to decorating. You will want to keep a few ideas in mind and you will also want to sit down with some mail catalogs and other magazines to see if there is anything that interests you. You will want to make sure that you consider the budget with every purchase that you make.

When it comes to home decorating you will want to focus on the areas that people are going to see on a regular basis. You will want to make sure that you first take care of the entry-level rooms first, because most people do not go upstairs when just a guest. You will find that there are many ways that you will be able to decorate, even the smallest of spaces, however, you will want to keep the three basic decorating tips in mind.

First, you will need to keep in mind fabric. Fabric is a cheap and easy way for you to be able to make a dramatic effect in any room. You will be able to add a whimsical look to any room and it is very nice to add bunting fabric in the setting rooms and in the family rooms.

Secondly you will find that candles are cheap and easy to use in the decor of your home. It makes any home seem more like a family home and you will also find that there are tons of ways to use the candles. You can use candles to make a dramatic effect as well. You will be able to keep you home decorating simple with candles, but you will at least be able to give the home a clean, country look or rustic medieval look.

When it comes to mirrors you will be able to sue them to your advantage. You should be able to use the mirrors in a way that will allow you to play around with the size of a room. Mirrors tend to make small or narrow rooms seem so much bigger. You will want to keep in mind that these tricks are used in practically any home. You’ll love the fact that people see your room differently over a couple candles and a good-sized mirror. You will find that this is a great and cheap way of doing things.
