Inside my House
Can that work? I love the cognac stained oak cabinets from Kraftmaid, and I think they look like those antique oak stained pieces of furniture that people love so much. And with soft colored walls and vintage jars and different things passed down from my Grandma do you think it would look good? Does anyone know where I could find a picture like this on the internet so I can almost see my future kitchen before having to make a final decision? I like cream colored cabinets too but sometimes then there is too much light and not enough dark to anchor the room. I know forsure our dining table will be a rich wood color. But I still think the room would then be too light and not enough of a cozy “hug”. Anyone help?
Cottage style furniture is an eclectic blend of the old with the new. The elements in a cottage style furnishing usually find themselves white washed or done up in a simple white paint. At times, cottage furnishings may even have a cream look or may bear the soothing sage green color. The classic patterns of cottage furniture can be well revealed through its panel styles, shutter and bead board.
Cottage style décor has got an appeal of its own and it is the very vintage look which gives you a cozy romantic feel. The cottage furniture pieces have a casual feel about them and that you can make out through their classic styles and designs. Usually these styles of furnishings come in pine, oak, poplar and birch like woods and most likely these pieces of furniture serve more than one common purpose. Take for example the coffee table which you so fondly use indoors.
If yours is a farmhouse with cottage décor all around, you may simply bring out the indoor coffee table out in the fresh air lawn to serve as your farmhouse bench. This was just a simple idea to deck up your home in the cottage style way. In a similar fashion, you can furnish your bedroom too. For example, if you have a wicker rocking chair at home, you can place it in your bedroom for that cottage touch and then pair it up with an old trunk to serve as a side table, to complete the cottage look.
The bottom line is to get creative with old usable items. To put it in other words, it is like using a well worn table as a working desk or using an old armoire as a television cabinet. That means using second hand finds and combining them with existing pieces of furniture you can create a charming appeal into your cottage theme, which will not only look natural but also add that extra dollop of creativity.
