Nowadays, farming is no longer regarded as a job only fit for those born in the country, who never went to school or have bad manners. If you can become a farmer now, it means you have enough money to buy a decent terrain somewhere and also dispose of the appropriate means of working it.
If you want to be a farmer, you will have to look way beyond the financial troubles that come with a land purchase. You need to be opened to agriculture, to be willing to learn concepts and meanings, to mingle with those life-long farmers that you now find so different and hard to talk to. You must leave back your city-self, the person accustomed to technology and things ordered by phone, and begin to think as a true farmer, a person that cares deeply for the land he work on.
Modern farmer fail to consider all the different aspects of caring and harvesting a piece of land. They believe that is they own it, they can happily and easily carry on their everyday lives and leave the farming responsibilities to others. There’s nothing wrong with this idea, if they won’t insist on calling themselves farmer, just because they are the ones that benefits from the eventual crops of their lands. Most of them end up selling the land, after they register several financial losses.
Avoiding usual mistakes should start with buying the necessary equipment. Even if it seems like a huge investment, it will pay off in time. And you don’t have to spend as much after all, you could simply buy garden tractors from local dealers and get a fantastic price. Additional farming devices are usually attached to the tractor and can be rented as needed, depending on the time of year and the type of your planted crops.
There is no right time to start farming. But at the same time, it’s never too late. Since modern techniques allow us to grow tropical plants in temperate climates and even to plant fields just before the beginning of winter, anything is possible. The only trick is will, and the possibility of learning. You must be open to all new information and assimilate as much as you, in a short time. People who grew up in the country and lived their lives on these fields will always have an advantage, but it can profit from their knowledge and accept their help when offered. No book is better that the teachings of an experienced farmer.
