My husband and I are thinking of replacing the carpet in the common areas of our home with laminate flooring. The only problem is, we have no idea what kind will be the best to match our decor. We have oak cabinetry and an oak bannister on our stairs – so should we try to get a matching oak exactly like it? Go darker? Go lighter? Or would it be better to get the stone/tile looking style? I really like those but my husband thinks it would look odd in the living room and dining area. Anyone out there with an opinion? What have you done?
I am pondering on the idea of leaving the bedrooms and stairs carpet, but installing laminate in hallways and family room/kitchen area. This would save me money if I did this and and still give people the taste of having laminate.
My only concern is, is this a home improvment faux paus? To me, it wouldn’t look strange, but I am not an expert in home decor.
