Moroccan Home Décor is an increasingly popular way for people of all cultures and backgrounds to transform their traditional living spaces into places that are full of warmth, depth and character. Often this style stands in stark contrast to the clean lines and sterile feel that accompanies the modern look. Every piece is created with its own unique attributes and form sometimes takes a front seat to function. There are very few straight lines and the overall feeling of a room is one that is soft. Broken lines and curves accentuate the warm colors and soft light to create a setting that not only invites one to sit, but also lean back and relax, put your feet up, and take a deep breath.

As mentioned above, one of the key attributes of Moroccan home décor is the absence of hard lines. Even in furniture, soft lines are the norm. Couch cushions, pillows, ottomans and poofs are crafted with soft, pliable corners that very rarely come to rest in a perfectly straight line. Pieces are often created in shapes other than squares and rectangles. Floor cushions may be round or oblong and even hard furniture like end tables will often be found in an octagonal or irregular shape. There is no absence of variety. With such a wide variety of shapes and structures and with no hard lines to draw the focus, each piece is allowed to speak for itself within the scope and attitude of the room.

Another key attribute of Moroccan home décor is the way that lighting is used. Very rarely will you find harsh or focused light. Instead, lighting is diffused so that it complements the living space, inviting people to slide into an area. Lighting is used to accentuate subtle features and is used to create an atmosphere of warmth. In the same way that the furniture itself is devoid of hard lines, so is the lighting. It is designed to fold softly into the room, sometimes through a colored shade. As the light through a colored and decorated shade is cast upon floor, ceiling and walls, it creates its own decorative features and often these plays on shadow are used themselves as decorative features within the overall scope of the room.

Soft, plush surfaces are also characteristic of Moroccan home décor. As with the lines and lighting, hard, stark surfaces are avoided. Even on flat surfaces, such as tabletops, the pattern is broken up with a cover or with a work of art that is actually incorporated into the surface of the piece itself. The lack of stark surfaces creates an atmosphere in which one gets a sense of being enveloped. In direct opposition of a minimalist approach, which allows the people within the room to define its tenor, this type of styling invites those in the room to be absorbed into the feeling of the room. One can be absorbed into the soft feel and comfort of the room. This creates a space where people may feel free to let their guard down and become more personable. With the focus not on people, but instead on the overall atmosphere of the room, everyone is placed on a similar plane of existence. Good conversation is fostered by a sense of equality and egos and personal airs are absorbed by the décor that surrounds you.

The trend of culturally inspired decorating has become more and more popular. People use influences from all over the world to decorate their homes. Over time, Asian and Spanish inspirations have evolved to become two of the most popular decorating trends in the world; however, new cultural influences are beginning to pop up everywhere. One of these trends is Moroccan home decor.

The Moroccan style is derived from Hispanic-Moorish style influences. It has appeared as a new trend in design and decoration and has become popular in cities in France, the United Kingdom and the United States. The popularity of Moroccan home décor has increased due in part by the renovations of Riads in Marrakech, a city in west-central Morocco based in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains. A Riad is a traditional Moroccan house that accentuates an interior garden. Moroccan home décor is unique in the fact that it brings together influences from Africa, Hispanic nations and Europe.

One of the great things about Moroccan home décor is the fact that most of the pieces are handcrafted. These items are not factory produced. They are individually crafted to make sure they are made of the utmost quality. From handcrafted tables and lamps to unique quilts and rugs, these Moroccan treasures add a touch of culture and historical ambiance to any room.

Some of the most classic pieces of Moroccan home decor would be the various types of hand-woven rugs. These Moroccan style rugs are commonly known as handmade kilims and come in many different designs and colors. Traditional kilims are handmade by women from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. To make these kilims, the women use a variety of stitches and different arrangements of triangles, rectangles and other shapes to make the design. Most kilims come in the traditional black and red Moroccan colors, however there are kilims that come in different colors. A nice aspect of a kilim is that it can be used as an area rug, but it can also be hung on the wall to decorate any room.

To go along with the handmade kilims, Moroccan style furniture is another great feature to add. Moroccan style furniture is not your typical furniture. It is not plain wood stained to match other pieces in the room with a few fixtures. Typical Moroccan home décor is accentuated with bold colors and intricate designs. From ottomans and nightstands, to tables and mirrors, it is difficult to find two designs alike due to the unique and elaborate way the furniture is shaped.

While there are so many aspects to Moroccan themed decorating, it is worth discussing the many Moroccan ceramic pieces that are handcrafted. The ceramic accent pieces, available to accompany any other Moroccan style piece of furniture or rug, have an interesting antique look. The crafters often use metals and mirrors to draw attention to the shape and design of the ceramic piece. Again, bold colors and intricate designs are used making it difficult to find two pieces alike. These ceramic designs can be used as vases, watering pots, jewelry boxes and jars.

Whether you’re an interior designer or want to liven up an otherwise plain room, using Moroccan home décor can be relatively easy because there is no bad decision when it comes to choosing authentic Moroccan pieces. Using a decorative rug or ceramic fixture can easily brighten a boring room. This is why Moroccan style decorating has become so popular in the United States and many other countries.

Home is where the heart is but is your home missing something? Maybe what your home really needs is a little design here and there and something really classic to enhance the entire decor. If your home has the same lighting, bulbs and candle stands then how is it really different from any other home? Did you know that natural light is more relaxing than the artificial luminescence? If you didn’t know this then this is the best time to bring some change. Add some magic into your home and brighten up the decor using some of the oldest methods of lighting – bring home the Moroccan Lanterns!

You are probably wondering how a lantern can change the ambience of your home. A lantern will provide a rustic look to your home. You can hang it anywhere but will look great in your living room as well as on the garden porch. Imagine having a dinner on the porch brightened by the subtle magnificence of the Moroccan Lantern. You need to experience it to feel the impact!

Let’s take a look at Moroccan lanterns and why they are preferred to ordinary lanterns. Moroccan lighting has been a unique home decoration concept for a long time and there are reasons for the same. Moroccan decor is not something that you will find easily in US homes as it doesn’t have a deep reach. If you find a home with Moroccan decor then be rest assured that either they have traveled to Morocco to find it or they have found it through specialists like us. Moroccan Decor is rare but its uniqueness comes from the fact that it has influences of Moroccan history, culture and art. Moroccan lighting is also a part of the same influence and brings with it the geometric forms, vivid colors, and exotic designs, which have long been the symbol of Moroccan decor.

One of the exotic Moroccan lanterns also known as the henna lamps is made from stretched goat skin and is decorated with exquisite designs. The designs are all hand painted and based on traditional henna designs. Some of the designs are also dyed with paprika or saffron based dyes and is the ultimate decoration piece for your living room. It will add an earthy touch and bring in the rustic feel to your living room or any where in your house where place it. The henna sconce is also used without lighting but these are meant to be stand alone decorative wall pieces.

Another Moroccan decoration that you can try is the stained glass lamp that comes with carved motives and definitely makes a bolder statement as far as designing your interiors is concerned. The Stained glass lamps are one of its kinds and will add spice to the overall interior decoration of your house. Moroccan lamps are also known as Moroccan lanterns and can be added to an existing wrought iron chandelier to bring a warmth and delightfully appealing freshness to your home.

With Moroccan lighting, you can get your true creative spirit working and use them to recreate a truly exotic Moroccan oasis.

Using Moroccan lighting

You can try and use various types of wattage to get different looks in terms of design and brightness. You can also experiment a little and use a candle especially if you are using the Moroccan lantern in a small space. While using henna lamps or henna wall sconces, you can try a low wattage to get the right ambiance – it will provide a very romantic feel.

Maintenance of your Moroccan lighting

When it comes to the maintenance of Moroccan lighting then you can feel good about the fact that the maintenance cost is as good as zero. Another salient point is that unlike tubes and bulbs or even candles, the Moroccan lanterns can last for almost a lifetime. The only maintenance required involves lubrication of the side door hinges. This lubrication can be done once in a while or during the rainy season. If you choose the henna lamps or the henna wall sconce then they don’t require any maintenance at all.

You will have to also spray the Moroccan lanterns with a sealant, which will prevent gathering of rust. The other way is to use sealant on each and every metal part and for this you will have to take the glass of first. Either ways, the use of sealant will increase the lifespan of the lanterns and provide you with enough luminance to last a lifetime.

One of the most popular decor that you can incorporate in your home includes Moroccan furniture as well as accessories. If you want interior design, you can add both functionality as well as art to your home.

Moroccan furniture uses the look of Moorish ethnic design that will invoke beauty as well as charm in your home. Everyone wants their home to look a bit different than other homes and one way to do it is to use Moroccan furniture as well as other decor that will all blend together but add warmth and comfort, as well as artistic flavor to your home decor. One of the reasons why Moroccan furniture is so very well liked is that it will blend in well with your existing furniture.

3 Ways to Use Moroccan Furniture Inside and Outside

1.Moroccan furnishings look wonderful and vibrant when you use them to create Moroccan living rooms. Not only are the vibrant colors that are used in Moroccan sofas, chairs and tables easy to blend with other furnishings in your home, but you can also use Moroccan lamps and continue to add to this decor. One of the best aspects of creating a Moroccan living room is the fact that you do not need a lot of furnishings for your Moroccan living room to come alive. In addition to that, as Moroccan lamps are truly works of art themselves, they tend to be the focal point.

You can decorate your home using these furnishings that are affordable and make a good choice for someone just starting out who wants to gradually add to their living room decor with these furnishings.

2.For the bedroom, Moroccan bedding will do wonders. The bedding itself is made from vibrant colors and exquisite materials. In addition to bedding, you will want your Moroccan bedroom to have hand carved bedroom Moroccan furniture as that includes beds, mirrors and dressers.

Of course, you will also want to throw in a few Moroccan lamps as well as a rug to give the room a great deal of Moroccan warmth. If you are looking or interior design that is both artistic and functional, you should consider Moroccan furniture for your bedroom.

3.You have your choice when it comes to outdoor tables for Moroccan patios. These include mosaic tables as well as other outdoor Moroccan furniture including fountains and patio furniture.

Your deck or patio will take on new life when you incorporate Moroccan furniture into the mix. In addition to mosaic styling, you can also find wooden tables as well as those that are intricately carved when you are looking for Moroccan furniture for the outdoors. Of course, you will want to use Moroccan lanterns as well.

One of the best aspects of using Moroccan furniture is that it is timeless. This means that it will fit in to any decor that you already have. You can gradually start incorporating the Moroccan furniture into your living space and will find that you enjoy gathering more of the furniture, lamps as well as accessories that make Moroccan furniture so very timeless, useful and artistic.

If you want to start using Moroccan design, take a look online at some of the most beautiful and original designs in furniture, lamps and bedding that use Moroccan design and Moroccan furniture.

Accessories are the highlights of any room design and could help pull your Moroccan decorating theme together. Explore using exotic pieces that compliment the colorful and exotic feeling of exotic days. Your Moroccan décor will really have a unique touch when you add various matching knick-knacks, artwork and pillows.

Prints and paintings add drama and depth to any interior design, but you have to know how to hang it well for the most perfect impact. A lot of homeowners situate prints and paintings so that the top or bottom edges line up, but it’s important to arrange them so that the middle of the pieces line up. If you have a group of artworks to arrange on one wall, work out the design on the floor first to select the best design. To coordinate with your Moroccan decorating theme, try hanging deep rich artwork in groups.

You may also accessorize with beaded fringe, leatherbound books, and plants to build the appeal of exotic days. When picking your decorative items, however, you should make sure they are in keeping with the decorating scheme plus have some sort of coordinating qualities with each other. Don’t stray to far from your design theme or you can end up with a confusing design.

Another decorative accessory you might employ to add appeal to your decorating scheme is decorative pillows. They’re fun to purchase and you can take advantage of them in most any room. Pillows on your sofa or chair will help bring the Moroccan decor sense to the furniture. You can decorate with pillows in the bathroom and kitchen by putting them on chairs, shelving and any corner or any interesting spot. In the bedroom, match them to your interior design but select fabrics which are diverse with one harmonizing element. Pillows which are made from velvety materials in deep colors will help add charm to your room design.

Knick Knacks can really provide a captivating look to any room, no matter what the decorating approach. To add interest to your Moroccan decor, stick with accessories that have a colorful and exotic ambiance. Having ethnic brass pieces on shelves can result in a terrific look and so can inlaid wooden boxes on your tables. Here is where you can really make the home design your own by picking decorative pieces which reflect your personal style. Contrary to what you might think, you don’t have to break your budget to get wonderful decorative items. Choosing items at thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets can provide captivating items for a lot less.

Utilizing exotic woods and inlaid décor can add interest and drama to your Moroccan decorating theme. Before you go shopping, it’s a terrific idea to map out the styles, and types of items you need so that you don’t buy items that won’t fit. Size matters, so go around the room and get an idea of the size of wall art and accessories you would like and shop accordingly. Paying attention to size and proportions insures that you will get an inviting look in any design theme!

Decor and architecture magazines often trigger the dreamer in us, the dream of having their own home and probably you are living that dream. Along with the dream comes many things like renovating the home, brightening the interiors, new paint, decorations, wall pieces, show pieces, chandeliers etc… But sometimes, people also end up using so much decoration that it takes away the charm of living in that house.

On the other hand, you can experiment with earthen decors and subtle interior decoration or art to instill a new life into your home. One of doing is by introducing themes based on colors and the other is to use themes based on countries like using the Moroccan decor.

You would probably ask what is so great about Moroccan decor. There is a subtlety in Moroccan decor and it is very earthy in nature. The important point is that if you want your home to stand out of the crowd then you need to think different.

Everyone uses the same decors, almost the same ceramic tiles, the aqua colors on the walls and even the ever so popular and classic wrought iron decorative pieces.

If you use Moroccan decor, you are definitely going to create a stir and your friends and neighbors are going to ask you questions about how you went around doing it all.

It is not just about decorating the interiors of your home; it is also about creating your own class and being a part of an elite crowd in the society.

Lets take a few steps back in time to know more about a country that has made its impact in the worldwide interior decoration market with their artistic themes.

Morocco in North Africa has a rich cultural and historical heritage that exudes beauty through various forms of art, which are often seen as mysterious or magical.

Moroccan decor in the last couple of years has been re-discovered and today it is used to add a sensual appeal through art and colors to homes.

If you have visited Morocco then you have had the opportunity to enjoy the rich cultural heritage that it boasts of. If you have never been to Morocco then you can become an integral part of the country, the people and the art through understanding and using Moroccan decor.

Moroccan culture was a mix of five ethnic groups, Arab, Berber, Islamic, African and Iberian and their heritage has survived the harsh destruction of time because till around the 20th century, the land was free from foreign invasion.

Around the early 1900s, Moroccan culture was influenced immensely by various characteristics of the European cultures but in spite of the influence, Morocco was able to keep its tradition, art & culture alive. Some instances are like the existence of the traditional Moroccan house with a garden in the interior, which is known as Riad and it has not changed for almost five centuries.

The Moroccan style and decor is spectacular in looks and sensuous in appeal and has been there was centuries. The intense colors of the Moroccan style cast a magic spell on anyone who uses it and even on those who see it.

Most of the Moroccan decor is created from a mix of raw terracotta clay, and the color can vary from the passionate red of the paprika spice to the intense blue of the Mediterranean and the shimmering yellow of the Sahara. You can almost feel the decor as if it were alive!

In fact one of the spectacular Moroccan decor is created with an intense blue as is there at Jardin Majorelle located in the Avenue Yacoub el Mansour in Marrakech.

You have to really see it to believe it but we warn you: you wont be able to stop yourself from falling in love with the color.

The blue is unique because no one has ever been able to copy it. But Moroccan decor is not just about vibrant colors, there more to it than meets the eye. You can use Moroccan lighting with different designs and patterns that has a subtle touch of Moroccan and Islamic architecture.

The intricately designed filigree lanterns with colored glass inserts is a temptation you can hardly refuse and it exudes a class that has elegance. There are special Moroccan henna lamps that come in a hue of colors and can hold you spellbound for hours.

What is a home without the right decor? Everyone at some time or the other lives the dream of having their own home and probably you are living that dream. Along with the dream comes many things like renovating the home, brightening the interiors, new paint, decorations, wall pieces, show pieces, chandeliers etc. But sometimes, people also end up using so much decoration that it takes away the charm of living in that house.
One of the hottest trends when it comes to interior design of the home is Moroccan home decor. There are many reasons why Moroccan decor is so popular that include the designs, fabrics, beauty of the colors that blend so well together and the fact that this type of decorating can stand the test of time.

In addition to that, Moroccan design can blend well with other types of decor in your home. Whether you have a traditional design or a modern home, you can mix and match – making the design more eclectic when you use the ethnic design of Moroccan home decor.

Moroccan Home decor Accessories

Moroccan Pottery: You will want to use Moroccan pottery in your home decor as it is not only just for adornment, but a big part of Moroccan culture. The pottery is still hand made and you can gets some pieces that are real works of original art. The pottery that is made from natural clay will add color as well as drama to your home and give you art pieces that can be the focal point of any table.

Moroccan Table Tops: You will also find that table tops are very intricate and designed well when it comes to Moroccan accessories. You can see the Mediterranean design in the table tops that are either carved by hand or laid with mosaic patterns that are made of glass or clay. The tables themselves are a focal point and many are a work of art unto themselves.

Moroccan Area Rugs: You really need to have an area rug in a room to make it feel more relaxed and warm. No home is really complete without this, even if you have wall to wall carpeting. But you do not have to be confined to using the Moroccan rugs only on the floor. Because these rugs are woven so artfully, they can also be used to hang on the wall in place of a painting. The rugs are woven and hand tied and make for great wall designs as well as floor designs.

Moroccan Mirrors: Mirrors are one way that you can make a smaller room look larger. You can use Moroccan mirrors that are made from bone or metal filigree frames. Using mirrors as a wall covering instead of paintings is less expensive, although the carved mirrors and those that are henna stained give most art a run for their money. You can add mirrors in any room of the house just as you would a picture or a painting. They look very well when you add sconces next to them to reflect light.

Moroccan Lighting: Do not forget lighting. Many people ignore this aspect of interior design, so do not forget to use lamps, lanterns, sconces and even chandeliers in your Moroccan home decor. The lampshades are often one of a kind and made from animal skin that has been stained and hand painted or tattooed with henna. Get the same type of lighting throughout the house that will be functional as well as offer beauty.

Moroccan Room Dividers: You can use room dividers in many different ways to add drama to your rooms as well as section them for privacy by using screening you can create space and make a room more inviting as well as more functional. For even more dramatic flair, add lanterns from the screens or star lamps. If you have a home office in the main living area of the home, the room dividers are a perfect way to section off this space.

There is so much that you can do when it comes to creating a home that embraces Moroccan home decor. These are just a few ideas. Once you begin adding this Mediterranean design to your home, you will naturally start gravitating towards lighting, rugs, furniture and accessories that have the Moroccan design. Although Moroccan home decor is hardly new, its appeal has managed to stand the test of time.

One of the best aspects of Moroccan home decor is that you can combine it easily with any other home decor style and create an eclectic interior design in your home.

If you are seeking color, texture and innovative design, you will find it when it comes to Moroccan style. As time has moved, this colorful and dramatic style has captivated the inspiration of many interior designers and evolved to the point where it can be mixed to make an eclectic blend in any home. If you are seeking dramatic effect in your home decorating, consider using Moroccan home decor on your walls.

5 Ways of Using Moroccan Home decor on Walls

1.Take a look at the Moroccan wall shelves that are available in the market today and use them to add instant decor to your walls. You can place clay vases and other Moroccan art on the shelves that can be attached to the wall or even put in the corner. If you want to add both culture and beauty to your home, consider Moroccan wall shelves.

2.Do not ignore Moroccan lighting. You can use wall sconces that not only reflect light but are also pieces of art by themselves. Whether large or small, Moroccan wall sconces are both practical as well as artistic. They can be a focal point of any wall or corner in your home. They also make for a great way to fill up an empty space on any wall.

3.You can find patterned Moroccan rugs that will look great on the floor as well as up on the wall. Do not think that rugs have to be placed only on the floor. Some of the Moroccan rugs look great on the wall and are an excellent idea when you have a large wall space that may be difficult to cover. You can choose a tapestry or any patterned rug and give any wall instant culture.

4.Mirrors are often used to give a room more depth and Moroccan mirrors are no different. They can add more dramatic flair to your home because they are made of metal frames with intricate details. You can place the wall sconces next to the mirrors and get the maximum reflection of the light. A mirror can be used in place of a painting on any wall and broadens the appearance of the room as well as adds beauty.

5.Do not forget paint when you are considering Moroccan decorating. If you want the best effect when you are painting, use warm earth tones on the walls. This will give your home a feeling of warmth as well as beauty. Paint your walls a warm, earthy tone and then decorate the walls using Moroccan artwork and decor. You will have a fun when you are implementing Moroccan decorating and your guests will always feel welcome.

One of the reasons why Mediterranean design is popular is because it is both comfortable, welcoming and will combine with any other home decor style. In addition to that, the designs are timeless and will not “go out of style” any time soon as they have been used for ages. You can pick a wall or a room and just begin adding pieces bit by bit to fill your home with Moroccan home decor.

Tired of looking at the same bedroom, same dining room and same living room again and again? Then it’s time for a change. This time to not just change the furniture or the color of your home, rather go for a completely different look. Decorating your home in Moroccan style is the latest trend these days. Morocco is like a melting pot of different cultures and styles and so the Moroccan style décor will have some of the features of every culture and style. One can even see hints of Arabic style in it.

Moroccan home décor can be classified into two types – urban Moroccan decor and rural Moroccan decor. The urban décor involves the use of ceramics, metal, wood and leather. On the other hand, the rural décor has more of the Middle Eastern influence, with an emphasis on the use of rugs, fabrics and embroideries. The best feature of having a Moroccan style decoration is that the objects used in it are usually those that have use in practical life too. Given below are some tips that will help you in decorating your home in the Moroccan style.

Moroccan Style Decorating Ideas

Use of Bright Colors

When decorating your home Moroccan style, make sure to use bright natural colors. The colors like green and blue, found in the sea of the area, and the ones like gold and yellow, found in the surrounding desert, should be used as much as possible. You can combine other colors like vibrant red, orange or purple with blue or gold to create an effervescent ambience. Feel free to use of vibrant colors such as pink fuchsia, lavender, and orange while keeping the aesthetics in mind.

Bring Nature Home

For creating the tropical atmosphere seen in Morocco, you can make extensive use of plants. The more exotic the plants, the better look they will bring to your house. At the same time, they will also provide you with some greenery in the ‘concrete-jungle’ world of today. If it is feasible, you can also get textured walls.

Lighting

Lighting plays a very important role in adding that perfect Moroccan flavor look to your home décor. Moroccan light fixtures are totally different from those used in the other parts of the world. Moroccan light fixtures include Moroccan sconces, Moroccan chandeliers, Moroccan lanterns, Moroccan hanging pendants, and Moroccan lamps. A great source for quality handmade Moroccan light fixtures as well as Moorish lighting is a California company called Saint Tropez Boutique that design and handcrafts Moroccan light fixtures in Casablanca, Morocco and exclusively distributes them in the U.S.A. The reason why I like Saint Tropez Boutique because they are unique Moroccan light fixtures designs, plus they handcrafted from top quality Moroccan solid brass that has been carved into refined and intricate patterns. Addition to that Saint Tropez Boutique is the exclusive dealer in the U.S.A that has Moroccan light fixtures pre-wired for the UL-Standard (pre-wired for the U.S Standard wiring).
Extensive Use of Textures

Moroccans love extensive use of textures in their home. So, if you want to have a Moroccan style look, rule out too much use of smooth and sleek materials. In fact, the fusion of multiple textures and shapes will be best. You can have darkened wood plank floors, which can be covered with natural fiber rugs of sand-ish color. This will not only add texture to the room, but also provide you with some comfort under the feet. You can also try draping fabric from the ceiling.

Some Other Tips

Colorful mosaic tables not only give a Moroccan feel to your place, but also help to brighten up a dull room. Use of handmade Moroccan tiles will go a long way in creating a Moroccan décor. Use of Moroccan tent as a Moroccan lounge getaway in your own backyard. Use of Moroccan wood lattice screens also known as Jali Screens in your windows doors, kitchen and bath cabinet doors, or even as a room divider wall Last but not the least, you can buy silk bedcovers or cushion covers, in jewel tones, to create that perfect Moroccan look.
